What's New at Pediatric Associates...
Flu Shots Pediatric Associates will start giving Flu vaccine for the 2010-2011 season on Monday, 9/20/2010 (our shipment date was recently moved back). We currently do not have a date for when we will have Flu shots for patients using VFC vaccines. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the CDC recommend that all children ages 6 months to 18 years receive Flu vaccine each year. All of the forms of this year’s Flu vaccine will have the H1N1 strain, as well as 2 additional strains included. We have preservative-free (Thimerasol-free) vaccine available for all children 6 months to 3 years. Children over 3 years will receive multi-dose Flu vaccine unless a parent specifically requests the preservative free vaccine. Not all insurance companies will cover the cost of preservative free vaccine for children over 3 years. We also have the live intranasal Flu vaccine available (FluMist) for healthy children (those without asthma or chronic medical conditions) ages 2 years to 18 years. For more information about the Flu vaccine for 2010-2011, go to The CDC information site at www.cdc.gov/flu/. Children aged 6 months–8 years who did not receive at least 1 dose of the 2009 H1N1 vaccine, who have never received a seasonal Flu Vaccine before, or who were vaccinated for the first time with the seasonal 2009–10 seasonal vaccine but who received only 1 dose should receive 2 doses of the 2010–11 influenza vaccine formula, spaced ≥4 weeks apart.
